Overview of Marbletown Planning Workshop
· Plan will be to "bucket" prioritized issues then rearrange CDC subcommittees to accommodate those results
· General themes of the session included concern about the town's development and its effect on infrastructure especially water
· Tom Jackson added that the results give the Town Board direction in its work
· Generally felt there was good attendance and representative sampling though few seniors and young people
Barbara Esmark from the Friends of the Rondout gave presentation from
that group of plan to buy 18.5 acres of frontage on the Rondout in
order to preserve public access. She was asking for support from the
CDC in going to the Town for funds and involvement in a grant request
to help in purchase of the land.
Tom Jackson spoke in support of the plan and for the Town to support
the plan in conjunction with the Town of Rosendale. Hopes include
further regional planning for recreation. Some concern re details of
the plan were voiced but overall consensus was for support.
Brief review of committees:
· Farm Preservation subcom is pursuing a non-for-profit status to further organize in support of regional farming
· Economic subcom still working in conjunction with the MBA to develop
a visitors center in town's vacant building next to the community center
· Community Center pursing non-for-profit status and current report is that there is more and more usage
Remainder of meeting was spent in workshop allocating issues to
headings for new committee formation. See "bucketing " results sent out
by Carl P.
