I. Marbletown Tri-Centennial 2003 Carl P. facilitated a discussion of
ideas for planning a tri-centennial celebration for 2003. He suggested
that the CDC initiate the creation of a committee of community members
(not a CDC subcommittee). He showed the Marbletown booklet published in
1977 and explained the formation of Marbletown, and Marbletown shield
and motto. The following ideas were discussed:
A. Jim Economos suggested items that could be manufactured by Imperial
Schrade for use as fund raising tools: knives, money clips, belt
buckles all with the town seal.
B. Possible fundraiser tie-ins: tractor pull, library fair, arts and culture event.
C. Celebration ideas:
1. A First Night event to kick off the year, possibly New Years or July.
This could be extended throughout the town (community center, SR Center
for the Arts, Marbletown School, Restaurants, Library etc.)
2. A year-long celebration covering many events i.e. weave tri-centennial
concept into various events spread over time.
D. Town seal or logo should appear throughout.
E. A meeting will take place on March 23rd
at UCCC to kick-off planning. An ad-hoc committee of various group
members could be formed then to coordinate and report back to CDC.
Groups could plan own events, with own budgets etc.
F. Eunice S. suggested contacting Ulster County Tourism office for support.
