 | CDC Minutes for May 9, 2002 by Carl Pezzino
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. CDC members in attendance:
Lou Cardinale, Jim Economos, Amy Moses, Dan Gagnon, Les Cohen, Mary
Ranges, Bruce Davenport, Marshall Borris, and Steve Rice. Guest; Steve
MacDonald.
In the absence of Brooke, minutes (such as they are), were taken by Carl Pezzino.
Carl announced the resignation of Marge Gagnon from the CDC. He
acknowledged Marges strong leadership as co-chair of the Community
Center subcommittee and thanked her (through Dan) for all her efforts.
He mentioned Marges desire to have the subcommittee follow through on
the original plans of that group taken two years ago.
1) The Trails subcommittee reported on improved operations with local
and state police officials regarding illegal trail use by motorized
vehicles, namely ATVs.
Met with State Police, and Sheriffs Department with Marbletown and Hurley supervisors in attendance.
Were advised that legal no motorized vehicle postings must be every 660 feet. D&H corridor alliance will do the posting.
Only two places in state, on state land, where ATVs are allowed poses
a problem. Bruce Davenport acknowledged he allows riding on his land
with restrictions. No problems so far.
Greenway Event. Cyclists will come off "Hudson Line" and ride our O&W trail on August 8th.
2) The Emergency Services subcommittee reported the following in its
efforts to improve and recognize First Aid and Firefighter volunteerism:
The Marbletown Firemans Association, which is a joint association of
all 7 Fire Districts in town was unable to meet last month. But hopes
to meet soon. Tony Catarelli will try to get this dormant group back up
and running. Goal is to let association understand what subcommittee is
trying to do, e.g. Encourage new volunteer membership.
3) Infrastructure subcommittee will meet with Dan Schuster on May 15 to
review latest streetscape plan. A full CDC review is now scheduled for
our next meeting on June 13th.
4) Economic Development subcommittee is still reviewing the
requirements for locating the information Kiosk at Town Hall. A new
offer to locate the information center at Stone Ridge Town Centre (new
news since our May meeting) will be discussed with Jim DiDonna before
the next CDC meeting. Subcommittee is reviewing both options at this
time.
5) Natural Resources subcommittee received a negative response from
Glynwood of our counter offer to participate in their
marketing/planning methodology for open space and farm preservation.
They also acknowledged that our subcommittee was very far along in our
own analysis and wanted to keep in touch. Carl thanked the subcommittee
for their work in this effort. Also:
Amy Moses is now member of Natural Resources subcommittee, moving over from Trails.
Local and farm history curriculum now being investigated.
Local growers trying to band together to support marketing/advertising
initiatives. This will probably have a Rondout Valley flavor. Will try
to use existing bill boards. Financial help from state Pride of New
York initiative was not forth coming.
Rick Fitzler, of UCCC GIS department and member of Farm Pres. Task
Force, is investigating Marbletown farm use changes. Report due out by
end of year.
6) Arts and Culture subcommittee;
College Scholarships for students of the arts have been selected. 3 @ $1,000, 3 @ $300.
Awardees will be announced at RVHS on June 7. Well hear who they are at next CDC.
Arts Association will have booth at Library Fair. "Illumination" (year
two) is now being planned. Probably will be at town park in August.
7) Community Center subcommittee is revisiting their mission now that
Center building is complete (almost). Mary, Brooke and Carl to meet
before June CDC to discuss. Also:
Teen "Retro" dance to be held Friday of Memorial Day weekend.
$500 from Healthy Heart fund (thanks Marge) will fund Mats and Yoga sessions.
Still contemplating "party" for First Aid and Firefighter volunteers.
8) Other
Carl announced second Tricentennial meeting will be held on May 18th
with a third now scheduled on June 10th. June 10 meeting will hopefully
result in selection of a chair for this year long event scheduled for
next year (2003).
Mary will call Helen Budrock to inquire about grant money and hydrologist to investigate our water supply/ drought problems.
