 | MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Thursday, June 12th, 2003, Marbletown Town Hall
Present: Carl Pezzino, Tom Jackson, Mary Ranges, Bruce Davenport, Lou
Cardinale, Roger Wells, Susan Benz, Maggie Colan, Brooke Pickering,
Steve MacDonald, Jim Hoover, BethAnn Bruno, Bruce Littlefield, Eunice
Shumalski.
The meeting was called to order by Carl Pezzino at 7:15pm
Introductions:
Carl opened the meeting by making a few introductions, announcements:
- Jim Hoover and Steve MacDonald are now on the Arts and Culture
subcommittee. Steve is also working on the website committee.
- Andy Lutz is away for the summer, Brooke will fill in for him chairing the website committee temporarily.
- BethAnn
Bruno (present) is the new Planning & Zoning secretary and will be
doing a lot of work on the website.
II. Subcommittee Reports
Streetscape
Tom J. and Lou C. reported as follows:
1. DOT
schedule: 209 project still on their 2006 schedule but other similar
projects are being pushed back. All agree to push forward with
streetscape design/plans in spite of possible time-frame changes.
2. The questionnaire for 209 residents is the next immediate project.
3. This
subcommittee needs new members. A few names of possible committee
volunteers were suggested. Carl will help with recruitment.
Public Safety
Lou C. reported as follows:
1. County Traffic Board counters are working at Leggett Road.
2.
Rail Trail crossing: some ideas from last months minutes were
discussed. Lou reported that stop signs for trail pedestrians are
coming for Cottekill, Marcott, Leggett. The need for extra signs (they
get stolen) was discussed.
3. Lou is working on getting the Marbletown Fire Chiefs together and
on training sharing between all fire houses. All agreed this sounded
good.
Economic Development
Sue B. reported as follows:
1. The contract for the visitors center is in draft form.
- The subcommittee met with Dave Sheeley
- The subcommittee met with the Chamber of Commerce Director of New
Paltz who offered ideas & advice.
- The roof has been replaced.
- More meetings are scheduled.

Trails
Eunice S. reported as follows:
1. The Trail Clean Up is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st.
- Meet behind the Birdwatchers Store at 9am. Bring your clippers.
- Bruce D. will help with getting water donated.
- Publicity: Eunice will ask Cathy Davis re. a kiosk announcement.
Sue will e-mail Laurel with the info for the MBA.
Community Participation
Tom and Brooke reported as follows:
1. Website: The website subcommittee met on June 3rd.
The VTH contract is in the works, with details about home page design
(there design vs. our own in-house design) to be worked out. A VTH rep
will attend the July 1st meeting and be at Town Hall to receive info from all departments.
- The Community Center may be used for the home page photo.
- The subcommittee is using a prototype of the interactive portion.
- Ways of linking the Teen Center with the website were discussed.
2. Communications: Andy, Mary and Brooke met in May and discussed:
a. Communication channels, need for hard copy of important info from the website, and possible Blue Stone Press column by Andy.
b. Possible public forums for the future are meet the candidates in the Fall, and alternatives for funding pubic education.
Environment and Water
Maggie reported as follows:
a. A meeting is scheduled with Dr. Beinkafner on June 26th She will look over a survey draft.
b. Maggie will give Tom a proposal on the survey mailing.
c. Barbara D. will contact Tom about old surveys.
d. The subcommittee should contact Paul Digrazia for advice.
e. Carl suggested that survey questions be shown to Tom in case the Town wants to add to the content.
f. Tom mentioned the need to review the time frame as the function of the survey is tied to the grant. The grant is still pending.
Arts and Culture
Bruce L. reported as follows:
1. Scholarships: Four scholarships have been awarded.
2. Illumination is planned for July 19th
(not to coincide with the tricentennial party). Peter Blanchett,
classical guitarist, will perform. Kids will make tricentennial
lanterns.
3. Artists will participate in Crafts at Rhinebeck plus the Library Fair.
4. Jim
Hoover will help with the culture end of the subcommittee. Jim
mentioned some Library events being planned for coming months.

Open Space
Bruce D. reported as follows:
1. The Rondout Growers directory is in the works.
2. Fundraiser a square dance and pig roast at Davenport Barn. John Novi is organizing it for September 13th. Tricentennial Fireworks and Canawlers Day were mentioned as possible conflicts on that date.
Misc.
1. Other upcoming events: Tractor Pull on August 31st; Art Harvest
on Columbus Day Weekend (Oct.); and Cow Patty Day in July.
2. Community
Calendar: Possible date conflicts with the above mentioned square dance
fundraiser led to a discussion of the need for a systematized,
coordinated, centralized Community Calendar.
3. Joint
Town and Library newsletter mailings: Tom explained the idea of a Town
newsletter that could be mailed quarterly with the Library newsletter.
Mary and Brooke (Community Participations subcommittee) will come up
with an outline of possible newsletter content. All are invited to
think of a good title for it.
4. Community
Center Improvements: Carl mentioned how wonderful the improved
Community Center façade is. Air conditioning is definitely coming, but
will take more time and more money than planned.
The next CDC meeting will be Thursday, July 10th at 7pm at Town Hall.
