Town Negotiates New Agreement with Time-Warner Cable

In recognition of the urgent need to provide more MT residents with access to high-speed internet services the Town Board, with the pro-bono assistance of Attorney, Marti Greene, has a negotiated an unprecedented new agreement with TWC.

Under Public Service Commission rules, TWC is only required to provide service to roads where there are 20+ homes , per mile (as measured from the closest active service connection). The new agreement calls for TWC to wire an additional 15 miles, of presently unserved roads, where the density is below 20 homes, per mile. Additionally, TWC has agreed to triple revenues payable to the Town and has also agreed to provide free basic service to all schools, libraries, fire houses, municipal buildings and other emergency service facilities and steep discounts for internet service.

This new agreement is the best ever offered to a community in the Hudson Valley, however, the Town Board recognizes that high-speed internet access represents critical economic infrastructure and we will continue to leave no stone unturned in the quest for town-wide, universal coverage.

Congress Passes new provision allowing up to a 100% Federal Income Tax Credit, for 15 years, for placing land into a Conservation Easement. Click on the following link for more information: www.lta.org/publicpolicy/hr4_factsheet.htm

$500,000.00 209 Corridor Study Approved

A $500,000.00 grant to study sustainable development on the Route 209 corridor has been officially approved by the State and the UC Transportation Council. This idea for this study was initially advanced by the Supervisors of Marbletown and Rochester, who convinced all of the Towns and Villages along 209 to participate. This study will focus on traffic safety and volume, enhancement of tourism and economic development, land use patterns, design guidelines and other "smart growth" strategies designed to ensure that Route 209 is developed in balanced manner and that it becomes more than just a road that goes from point A to point B. Town Board Passes Unanimous Resolution in Support of the Community Preservation Act

On Tuesday, June 6th, the Marbletown Town Board passed a unanimous resolution to urge our representatives, in Albany, to support the Community Preservation Act.

The Community Preservation Act calls for allowing towns and voters, through New York State, to decide on a case-by-case basis, whether they would like to set up a community preservation fund derived from an up to 2% real estate transfer tax, on the buyer, and only on the amount of the sale that is above and beyond the median sale price of a residential property in Ulster County.

Funds could be used for the preservation of, and assistance to,  local family farms, historical sites, parks and trails, and other valuable community assets. The bill has the support of Governor Pataki, was passed by the NYS Assembly and now resides in the NYS Senate.

We urge all those who would support this effort to contact Senator Bonacic Room 815 Legislative Office Building, Albany NY 12247 and urge him to support the Community Preservation Act (S.3153)

At the Town or Marbletown's Urging, the Ulster County Legislature has Passed an Additional Tax Exemption for Local Senior Housing

Last year, the Town of Marbletown passed a special tax exemption for the construction or renovation of living quarters for senior parents and grandparents. The bill calls for an exemption for the increase in assessed value if a home/property owner builds or renovates living quarters for a senior parent or grandparent, 62 year of age or older. It must be the senior's primary place of residence and must be re-certified annually to qualify for the exemption. It represents and excellent mechanism for keeping families together and for providing additional affordable housing options for our seniors.
Due to a strong lobbying effort by the Marbletown Supervisor's office, both the Ulster County Legislature has also passed the exemption, however, the Rondout Valley School District is still considering passage. Please contact your School Board members to express your support for this important measure. For more information, please call the Supervisor's office at 687-9673 or supervisor@marbletown.net
