Community Preservation Plan

The Community Preservation Plan document is divided into three parts:

Part 1 provides an overview of all the planning efforts previously developed in
Marbletown such as the adopted Comprehensive Plan, Natural Heritage Plan,
Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan, Biodiversity studies, and others. Updating
the Town’s goals for priority conservation opportunities is strongly supported by the
Natural Heritage Plan, which specifically recommends supporting the State’s Hudson
Valley Community Preservation Act and also provides numerous specific recommended
actions to fund the preservation of open space and natural/cultural resources in the
community.

Part 2 presents the methodology used in developing the Plan and summarizes the focus
of target areas where priority projects and parcels are identified for potential use of
Community Preservation Funds. An extensive and inclusive GIS survey of Natural
Resources and Historic Sites is conducted and cataloged. An in-depth layered map of
the natural and historic resources was created. This analysis is one of the tools in a
broader consideration process  which also includes extensive public input.
Part 3 identifies and evaluates the Town’s land use controls, like Zoning, that are
already available to use “in order to protect community character”.
