MARBLETOWN ECC Presents the “Marbletown Green Award” to SUN CREEK CENTER, Congratulations!

The Marbletown Green Award was created by the ECC to recognize local business for adopting and implementing green building and business practices.
Accepting the award for Sun Creek Center will be psychologist and owner, Dr. Kathleen Caproni. Built in 2009, Sun Creek Center was one of the first green business centers in Ulster County. It was specifically designed to combine its natural and historic setting with earth-friendly business practices to create an aesthetic, energy-efficient, healthy and family-friendly environment to its patients and staff. Sun Creek Center’s green bragging rights include roof-top solar panels (which provide an average of 70% of its energy needs) in addition to purposefully using the greenest materials and design possible at the time. No fossil fuels are used in the building’s operations. Sun Creek Center has also participated in the Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup of Route 209 for the past 8 years and is part of the Climate Reality Project.

“Sun Creek Center has been quietly fulfilling its mission of High Social Impact, Low Carbon Footprint for the last 10 years, and hopes to continue to spread the word about positive, sustainable business practices in the Hudson Valley and beyond,” notes Dr. Caproni. “When I conceived of this project in 2004, there were no local green small business models and few incentives from lending agencies. In fact, there was no easy way to even compare the value of what I was proposing. Now, I think it’s clear that we have no other choice but to build efficiently and sustainably. Many thanks to Ulster Savings Bank and the Catskill Watershed Corporation for supporting this project along with Marbletown’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), who walked us through the process of building green in the Stone Ridge Historic District.”

According to Councilman Eric Stewart, “The Town of Marbletown is pleased to recognize Dr. Caproni and Sun Creek Center with this, our second Marbletown Green Award. We hope that Sun Creek Center will serve as an inspiration to its clients, neighbors and other local businesses in adopting similar practices. What’s good for the environment is good for Marbletown—and, as shown by the success of Sun Creek Center—local business as well.”
