The Marbletown Farmland Protection Plan is in now in final draft form, click here to view the document.
In 2008 Marbletown was awarded a grant from New York State Agriculture & Markets to create a Farmland Protection Plan. The purpose of the project is to analyze the foundations of the Town’s agricultural economy and to create a protection plan that will address issues facing farmers and citizens, and set the stage for agricultural growth in the future. The plan is centered around seven major recommendations:
1. Enhance Marbletown’s agricultural land protection program
2. Integrated farmland protection with tourism and economic development activities.
3. Support County efforts to expand farmland protection outreach and education.
4. Co-create a new farmer development program.
5. Integrate Marbletown farmland protection into other agency plans.
6. Support an update to the Ulster County Ag & Farmland Protection Plan.
7. Explore enhancements to NY State Right to Farm protections.

The Town of Marbletown passed a special tax exemption for the construction or renovation of living quarters for senior parents and grandparents. The bill calls for an exemption for the increase in assessed value if a home/property owner builds or renovates living quarters for a senior parent or grandparent, 62 year of age or older. It must be the senior's primary place of residence and must be re-certified annually to qualify for the exemption. It represents and excellent mechanism for keeping families together and for providing additional affordable housing options for our seniors.
