!! Drought Warning Issued for Ulster County !!
Posted on: November 19, 2024 - 3:25pm
Drought Warning Issued for Ulster County and the Mid-Hudson Region Governor Hochul has declared a statewide drought watch, with Ulster and 14 other counties across the state elevated to drought warning status. This comes as dry conditions persist, leading to declining streamflow, groundwater levels, and wildfires near the New York-New Jersey border.
A drought warning calls for intensified voluntary water conservation measures and heightened local preparedness. To protect water resources, homeowners are encouraged to voluntarily reduce water use and follow these tips:
- Reuse water collected in rain barrels, dehumidifiers, or air conditioners to water plants.
- Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks.
- Fix leaking pipes, fixtures, toilets, hoses, and faucets.
- Wash only full loads of dishes and laundry.
- Take shorter showers or fill the bathtub partly.
- Install water-saving plumbing fixtures.
- Don’t run the tap to make water hot or cold.
- Wash cars less frequently.
