Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

This program is for Ulster County residents/households ONLY. No waste from businesses, schools, or organizations will be accepted.

Household hazardous wastes are chemicals that are toxic, caustic, flammable, or chemically reactive. Look for labels: Warning, Caution, Danger, Poisonous, Toxic, Flammable. Never put these items in the trash or pour chemicals down the drain. Bring them to our free, safe disposal event.

ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS for collection include:
Aerosols
Automotive cleaners & fluids (antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, oil filters, etc.)
Bug spray, insecticides, pesticides, rat poisons, mothballs
Fire extinguishers
Fluorescent bulbs (CFL’s, UV, tubes, spirals, etc.)
Household cleaners (oven, toilet, drain, carpet, window, disinfectant, all-purpose, etc.)
Lawn & garden chemicals
Lead and oil-based paints, spray paints, etc.
Mercury, thermostats, thermometers
Mineral spirits, turpentine
Pharmaceutical waste (expired/unused medications, vitamins, liquid medications, pet medications, and medicated lotions and lotions)
Photo chemicals
Pool chemicals
Rechargeable batteries
Stains, sealants, varnishes,
Waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline, propane, etc.)
Wood cleaners & stains

NOT ACCEPTED AT THESE EVENTS:
Alkaline batteries
Asbestos
Empty containers
Electronics
Etiological, pathological, or medical waste (SHARPS)
Explosives, ammunition, or fireworks
Latex paint
Motor oil
Smoke detectors
Radioactive materials
Waste in containers larger than 10 gallons
Waste generated from businesses, farms, schools, or other organizations

Participants are limited to no more than 220 lbs, or 25 gallon equivalent. No containers larger than 10 gallons can be accepted.
