A Birds-eye View of Suburbanization

Building better towns and villages for wildlife and humans
Event Date:
Thursday, July 21, 2022 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Love watching birds in your backyard? Concerned that the building boom and loss of
habitat in Ulster County is driving birds and other wildlife away? Join ornithologist Dr.
Kara Belinsky for a free, online discussion on how to build better towns and villages for
wildlife and humans. The talk will be presented Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 pm and is
sponsored by the Third Thursday Series. To join the event, simply send an email to

Professor Belinsky is an Associate Professor of Biology at SUNY-New Paltz. Her
research focuses on the behavior, ecology, and
conservation of songbirds, especially the ways in which
human development of the land affects avian
populations. Belinsky earned her B.A. from Skidmore
College and her Ph.D. from the University of
Massachusetts, and has conducted post-doctoral

research at Texas Tech University. She joined the SUNY-
New Paltz faculty in 2014.

Third Thursday Series is a new program of online
events, organized by members of the Marbletown,
Rochester and Olive Environmental Conservation
Commissions (ECC’s). Each month—every third
Thursday—the series will present a free, online program
on an environmental topic of general interest to
residents of Ulster County. The next Third
Thursday Series will be on August 18 and will discuss the Ulster County Food Waste
Prevention and Recovery
